Instagram is fun: here’s why

Sure, Instagram is a bit of a time-suck, but it’s fun and can even be useful.

It’s the end of the day and you finally finished your English paper and math homework. Now what? Do you go to bed without checking your phone? Or do you lay there and scroll through Instagram for a bit to look at funny memes and see if anyone posted anything interesting? I go to Instagram like many kids my age.

Hear me out: I know Instagram is a complete waste of time, but you can find great quality stuff in that place. I could spend so long on my explore page looking at cute dog memes, old vines and even pictures of the world. I go on Instagram to see what’s going on. It’s like the modern day newspaper to me and many other people my age.

Instagram is not just for younger kids to post pictures either. It’s for everyone. Businesses use it to gain customers and even communicate with other businesses. The Lancer Spirit has its own Instagram with more than 500 followers. The amount of pictures being posted matter, because it helps the follower count increase.

I don’t post too much on my account, but when I do, I make sure the picture is interesting. People who post what they had for breakfast and everything they did for their birthday need to calm down, but one cute birthday post is acceptable. It’s typical for a girl to post a picture on her birthday, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. You should be appreciated on your birthday, so go ahead and do whatever you want. I have been guilty of posting a birthday selfie, and it’s not a huge deal to me.

When I have a good time with friends and take some cute pictures with them, of course I want to show them off! If you only post once in a while, it should be nice to refresh someone’s feed with your posts. But trust me, I have unfollowed many people due to their crazy amount of unnecessary posts.

At the end of the day, the people following you have basically agreed to deal with whatever you’re posting. If they don’t like it, they can click the unfollow button.

My message to everyone is that Instagram is not dumb. It’s a way of sharing information and communicating with people around the world. If you want to post basic captions like Becky, go for it! Do whatever you’re comfortable with and have fun with it.
