As we all hit the age of 16, the next big step is getting your license. So that you can go drive with your friends to Dunkin, get your energy rush and pull into the school with your new car at seven in the morning. It’s the talk in high school, it’s a bragging right you receive. So where and when should you start?

Turn the key in the car and begin

The DMV states that New Hampshire residents can start learning to drive at the age of 15½. So if you’re 15 ½ go right now ask your guardians to teach you to drive and get out there. I feel like at least touching the wheel before you get into driving school is important, it gives you a feel for how a car works and drives. Every car is different in their own ways. Some of the gas pedals are touchy, while others are stiff. Some cars are bigger and have a harder time to see the road. It’s all to get you prepared.

Change gears to drive.

After driving school to receive your license you must pass the driving test. Which is dispersed by the DMV. They test you on your vision, a computer test on driving, and a driving test on the road. On the computer test, it’s multiple choice, the questions include things about driving and road signals. So study like you’ve never done before.

Driving Courses

Sadly, if you’re under 18 years old you must complete an approved Driver Education Program and provide written permission from a parent or guardian in order to apply for a driver license in New Hampshire. New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles. There are many driving schools offered in New Hampshire. It’s yours and your parents’ choice of which one works best for you cost wise and course. Driving courses typically cost a lot, I mean a lot to a high schooler, around $900. That’s like a few months of work. “New Hampshire ranks as the most expensive state for driving education, primarily due to its higher per-hour charge for practical lessons at $130 and a theory class fee of $275” Zutobi

Get out there!

Getting your license is a new skill you learn at 16 or older like a new perk you get. It is also a scary thing for some of us. I can say I am scared to get my license but it also is an emotion of curiosity and uncertainty. It’s okay to make mistakes along the way, you may have to take your driving test multiple times. It’s normal.

Don’t press the brake on driving if you’re 16 or older, get out there.
