College applications are sent— Now what?

College applications are sent— Now what?

Alright seniors, we are nearing the end of the first semester. Quarter one grades are finalized and sent out as well as college applications themselves. We are almost home-free.

Once second semester begins January 22, 2018, it is our time. Our time to give up.

I know what you’re all thinking: I don’t know how to slack in school. I am not even used to getting below a 106 on tests. Laynie, please teach me how to have senioritis.

Don’t worry everyone, I am here to help. It’s finally time—unless you got a head start sophomore year, like me—to stop caring.

Motivation Should Plummet to -10

Unless you gave up long before this last quarter and colleges want to see your mid-year grades, there is nothing else for you to do.

Now that colleges have seen your final year of grades? Grades no longer matter!

(Keep in mind some colleges request your Midterm Grades if you’re on the edge of acceptance or denial, so go at your own risk)

Usually an A student, getting C’s? Good!

Usually a C student, still getting C’s, maybe even D’s? Even better!

If your motivation is not at rock bottom, are you even doing senior year right?

Homework is Not Meant for Home

Now, I understand that homework means, by “textbook definition” that teachers batter us with, work for home, but that is surely not the case.

Senior year may be for slacking before the real world hits us, but when those rare occasions come when you have a test to study for or a big-point assignment due, do it where you know you’ll get it done: in school.

Those 45 minutes in the period before your class is surely the best time to do your best work or studying. A real grind time to say the least!

Don’t have a study or a lunch before the class? Who cares! Do it while your teacher is talking or when you have class work to be doing, at least you are worrying about your academics. What could they possibly get mad about?

Going to Bed Early? Why Bother?

“Eight hours of sleep is the perfect amount for a growing child” is something you hear all your life, but is it really?

What would you rather do?

Finish up the last season of your Netflix show, or get to bed before your bedtime of 9:30?

Stay out late making memories with people you will not see next year, or get the adequate hours of sleep?

I mean, it’s truly up to you, but I think we all know what the better options are…

Attendance Failure

Now that you are a senior with bags under your eyes from sleep deprivation, no need to worry. There is a solution for those up-late regrets: Simply don’t go to school.

A student can have five unexcused absences per quarter (surely not enough) but that leaves a lot of wiggle room for hooky days.

Not ready in the morning? Skip your first class! Are you even a senior if you don’t attendance fail your first period?

Whether it’s A, B, or C period, everyone can agree the first class is always the worst.

Not prepared for a test? Have your parents dismiss you from class! Better yet, if you’re 18, dismiss yourself!

Also, while having an unlimited supply of excused absences, that’s where the real fun begins.

Fake doctor notes, fake college visits, the list goes on and on. Get creative!

Nothing spells fun like lying to the school and the off chance of getting caught. That just makes it better!

Remember

These “bad” habits are your go-to solution for getting through this year. If you haven’t been bit by the Senioritis bug yet, don’t worry, you will. It’s only a matter of time until these habits are second nature.

So break out the popcorn, put away the school work, and watch this year (painfully and quite slowly at times) fly by.
