Starting his career auditioning for season 19 of American Idol in early 2021, Benson Boone instantly impressed the judges after his performance of the song “Punchline” by Aidan Martin. Boone then began singing for American Idol making it to the top 24. Soon after, he moved on and began composing his own music.
After posting his first song “Ghost Town,” reaching over 29 million views on TikTok, Boone caught the attention of lead singer Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons. Reynolds signed Boone to his record label Night Street Records in partnership with Warner Records, announcing the deal on Oct. 15, 2021.
Following the release of his single “Ghost Town,” he dropped a couple more singles, including “In the Stars” and “Beautiful Things.”
The song “Beautiful Things” from his 2024 album Fireworks and Rollerblades helped Boone top the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Norway, France, Germany, Ireland, and New Zealand.
Aside from “Beautiful Things,” Boone has other songs that can match your mood.
When you’re getting ready for school in the morning, listen to this:
“Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” from a part of Boone’s debut album, Fireworks and Rollerblades. The song is good to have on in the background as you’re getting ready. Personally, it helps me focus on what I’m doing, but it also helps having an energetic song playing in the background.
When you need a comfort song, listen to this:
“Little Runaway” is from Boone’s album called Pulse. He made the song for his sister who struggled with her mental health. The song encourages people to embrace their struggles and find strength through the pain, even when they’re falling apart. When I found out the meaning behind the song, I understood it more.
When you’re angry, listen to this song:
“What Do You Want From Me” on the album Fireworks and Rollerblades. It’s a song to listen to when you’re fed up with someone or having a stressful day. I normally listen to this song in the car when I drive home after a long day.
When you’re grieving, listen to this song:
“In The Stars” is a single that Boone wrote in 2022. The song’s about his grandmother who passed away. When you listen to the lyrics, maybe you can relate to some aspects of the song, whether you’re missing somebody or grieving a loss. When I lost somebody close to me a couple years ago, I listened to this a lot.
When you’re lovesick, listen to these songs:
“To Love Someone” and “Hello Love” from Boone’s Fireworks and Rollerblades album, written in 2023, are both songs you can listen to when you’re lovesick. Sure they’re breakup songs, but the lyrics say something different.
Benson Boone is definitely a unique artist, his ability to capture different moods with his music is one of the things that make him stand out. His tracks have an emotional depth where you can feel the vulnerability in his voice, but also a sense of strength and hope. Whether it’s heartbreaking like “In The Stars” or a more upbeat track like “Ghost Town,” he has this gift for shifting seamlessly between emotions.
What I really think is special about him is how relatable his music is. No matter how you feel, there’s a song of his that can resonate. He doesn’t hide his feelings which makes his music feel very authentic in my opinion. It’s kind of like putting words to the emotions that a lot of people experience but might not know how to express themselves. His voice carries so much power, it feels as if he is inviting you into these intimate spaces where you can just sit with the emotion.
