You are bored and want to watch a movie but don’t know whether you want to go to the movies or watch it in the comfort of your own home. Ever want a snack or candy that isn’t in the movie theatre, and don’t feel like sneaking in your favorite snacks? Do you ever need to go to the bathroom without missing a whole chunk of the movie, or hear people chomping on their popcorn or nachos next to you and won’t stop?
No ads and previews
You decide to go to the theatre and your movie starts at 6 pm. You leave your house in a rush thinking you’re going to be late to your movie. You rush in, panting to get your tickets confirmed, get your popcorn and candy, then you scan your ticket and hurry into the theater.
But after all that you sit down only to see commercials still going and your movie doesn’t start for another 30 minutes. The ads always seem to go on forever. It’s so annoying when they add a game to it and you have to download an app just to play for two minutes.
However if you were at your house, you wouldn’t have to change or rush just to get to your movie on time. You can start the movie at any time and stop it anytime you want. Yes, there are commercials depending on what streaming device you are using, but most of the time you can skip those commercials. You don’t have to worry about making sure you have your tickets or paying for them. You also don’t have to worry about picking a movie time that works for you or friends, family, ect.
Unlimited pause button
One thing that you do have at home that will never be available in a theatre, is a remote to play and pause the movie whenever you want to. If there is a big part about to happen but you really need to go to the bathroom, you can pause it and not have to miss any of the movie. The same thing applies if you space out for a little bit or you couldn’t quite hear what the actors said, there is a button on the remote that allows you to rewind it.
Captions for life
I love captions, while many other people might not. Having captions helps me to really understand what is happening and what everyone is talking about. In the theatre captions are not easy options. Sure they can supply special glasses for people with hearing impairments that generate captions, but those can be faulty and there isn’t an unlimited supply for just anyone. The batteries can die, they can translate incorrectly, and many other things can go wrong with this “solution”. Captions are a life changer if you’re watching a horror movie and they have to be quiet because they are trying not to get killed. You try to turn up your volume to hear the actors, but even with your volume as loud as it can go you still can’t understand them. Captions make it so you don’t have your whole neighborhood hear them getting caught by the killer.
The comfort zone
The seats in theatres have gotten better, but being in your own home with your own blankets, on your own couch, cuddled up with your pet, is just better. Even if you bring your own blankets and pillows to the theatre you still can’t bring your pet, and you have to carry all of that around the place. In your home you can take two steps and grab a pillow and blanket.
Cost is better
Movie tickets are way too expensive for what they have to offer. Candy, and a bucket of popcorn or nachos, that always seem to be stale for outrageous prices. I could buy twice as many snacks for half of the price of one movie worth of popcorn. If you’re going on a date and want to go to the movies might as well stay home because honestly with inflation that’s a pretty expensive date to go on.
No need to sneak in snacks
Movie theatres are honestly one of the biggest scams ever with snacks. They only give you less than 15 options for what candy you want, and most of the time they aren’t the good candy. However if you’re at your house you can have as many bags of candy, chips as you want, and you don’t have to settle for a random candy that you don’t even want that bad. Why does the candy or popcorn or nachos always seem to be stale too? You won’t have that problem at home.
Can yell at any talkers, munchers, crinklers and phone lookers.
Do you ever hate when someone is chomping so loud you can’t even hear the movie? Or when you’re in the middle of the movie and some random person with their brightness on their phone insanely high and their face illuminates so bright it’s all you see. It’s worse when someone is “trying” to whisper but failing miserably and basically “quietly” shouting and feel like you can’t do anything about it? When you’re in the comfort of your own home you don’t have to be awkward and politely ask them to be quiet even though you just want to yell at them. You can tell them to shut up because they are annoying you, or if it’s a sibling you can tell them and have your parents deal with it.
Just stay at home.
Don’t even waste your time or money on the movie theatre, you can have a better experience than the theatre at your house. You can pick your favorite spot on the couch, cuddle with your pet, grab your favorite blanket, get some snacks, and as much candy as you want with no stress. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie.
