In two weeks, the Lancer Drama Club will be bringing sun, sand, and Summer to the Derry Opera House. Though it may be difficult to imagine being on the shores of Greece in the brisk February weather of New Hampshire, the club is preparing to bring life to the musical starting February 15.

Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical featuring songs by the band ABBA. We follow Sophie Sheridan (played by senior Kelly Egan) as she prepares for her wedding to Sky (senior Timmy Dolan). What her mother Donna (junior Hanna Carroll) doesn’t know is that Sophie has invited three men from Donna’s past who may or may not be Sophie’s father. When Harry (junior Alex Barnes), Bill (sophomore Jake Birch), and Sam (junior Mason Turek) all show up for the wedding, Sophie must decide who will walk her down the aisle.

Also at the wedding are Sophie’s best friends: Ali (junior Julia Pizzi) and Lisa (junior Maddie Tufts), Donna’s former bandmates Tanya (sophomore Rebecca Solomons) and Rosie (junior Reya Rivera), officiant Father Alexandrios (junior Madeline Rolfe), and Pepper (senior Devon Pacheco) and Eddie (sophomore Quinn Morrison), hotel staff and friends to Sky.

Two weeks from opening night, Dolan is “nervous, but also excited.” As a senior, this is Dolan’s final production with LHS Drama Club.

“It’s gonna be sad leaving everyone,” Dolan said. “[At the closing show,] I’m gonna start bawling my eyes out on stage in front of everyone.”

Freshman Parker Tessier, a member of the show’s ensemble, looks forward to the show’s tech week, when the cast will run through the show to iron out any details or technical difficulties that may arise.

“I’m really excited,” Tessier said. “I love tech week because I love spending so much time with the cast. I think we’re gonna have a show, and I think it’s gonna be beautiful.”

Tickets for the show are available here. Show times are Thursday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 16 at 7:00 PM, and Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students, staff, and seniors.
