With Lady Gaga’s new album release, MAYHEM, many fans say that she is back and better than ever. I would have to agree with these die hard fans, as her new music has brought me back through many of her different albums.
Gaga surprised fans worldwide by dropping “Abracadabra” and its music video while she was at the Grammys. “Abracadabra” is part of Gaga’s new album, MAYHEM, which came out on March 7, 2025. I think that this new album is amazing and brings Gaga back to her original roots.
Lady Gaga starts the album out with her hit single, “Disease,” which I thoroughly enjoyed. This song has been out for a good chunk of time already, so lots of fans, including myself, have already been able to enjoy it. The song’s booming bass and slower lyrics help the song shine.
Track two is “Abracadabra,” which fans have shown their appreciation for by recreating some of the iconic scenes in its music video. Gaga picked a couple of these videos and put them into her original “Abracadabra” music video. I personally like this song, but I don’t like it as much as some of the other songs on this album. It’s one of those songs that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to. It’s a tad too much for me and is a bit basic in my opinion.
Gaga transitions into track three with what I believe will soon be a hit, “Garden of Eden.” This song takes me back to her The Fame Monster days with its catchy lyrics and booming drums. “Garden of Eden” has to be one of my absolute favorite songs on the album with how I want to inject it into my soul. I love how she utilizes different tones to change the mood of the song so abruptly.
Track four is a song called “Perfect Celebrity,” which many people, including myself, can relate to. It talks about being “perfect” in the eyes of other people, and ripping that stereotype off. I feel like Gaga wrote this song to describe her personal experiences, as she has done things that multiple celebrities wouldn’t have ever dared to do, such as her meat dress at the MTV Music Awards in 2010. The intense beat of the song makes you imagine what it must’ve been like to be in her shoes.
Next, Gaga takes a break from all the hard hitting tunes with track five, “Vanish Into You.” I really like this song as it truly gets me into my feelings. I feel like this song is a good mix of a ballad and a pop song, which are my two favorite genres of music. Gaga made a great choice of her placement for this song too because it gives the listener a nice break.
Then, Gaga moves onto track six, “Killah,” which features Gesaffelstein, a music producer and DJ. “Killah” is a very controversial track on the album, as it’s one of those songs that you either love or hate. Personally, I enjoy Killah a lot mainly because of its beat. The lyrics of the song make me picture Ghostface from the Scream franchise, as it talks about killing and murder.
After “Killah,” is track seven, “ZombieBoy.” After one listen through, I wasn’t really a fan because of how upbeat it was, but as I listened to it a few more times, it definitely grew on me. Gaga really put her whole personality into this song and is one of the stronger songs on the album. I love how she went back to her roots talking about putting your paws (hands) up. Putting your paws up was Gaga’s thing for so long, so I’m obviously so excited for her to be going back to her older days.
Next, is “LoveDrug,” a song that doesn’t stand out to me on this album. Compared to the other songs on MAYHEM, it isn’t really memorable or has any significant meaning behind it. I feel like this song is okay; it’s just not catchy like most of the other songs.
Track nine brings us to “How Bad Do U Want Me,” which is probably the most popular song on the album. Many fans have said that the song reminds them of Taylor Swift’s music, and I would have to agree. I like Taylor’s music, so that’s probably why I enjoy this song so much. It’s catchy beat and memorable chorus is absolutely to die for. This song is definitely my number one for the album.
Next, Gaga brings us to “Don’t Call Tonight”, track 10. I feel as if this song is one of the few mediocre songs on the album. It just doesn’t personally do much for me. The lyrics are okay, but not great. Honestly, there isn’t much to say about this song because it’s so mediocre.
Track 11, “Shadow of a Man”, is an absolute hit. It really reminds me of Micheal Jackson with its pumped up beat. The song sounds like one of his songs, “Smooth Criminal.” I appreciate Gaga doing this type of style because it’s one I really enjoy.
“The Beast,” track 12, is the first ballad of the album. Personally, I enjoy this song a lot because I am a huge fan of Gaga’s ballads. She has the perfect voice for ballads and she always sings these songs with an incredible passion. “The Beast” never fails to give me the chills with her haunting vocals.
Next, Gaga gives listeners another fantastic ballad, my personal favorite of the three on the album, “Blade of Grass.” The lyrics of this song may be hard to interpret, but once you know what they truly mean the song becomes heartwarming. When Gaga first started dating her now husband, she told him that he should propose with a blade of grass and wrap it around her finger. You can really feel the love she has for her husband when she sings this song. That is why I enjoy the song so much, since it has such a sweet meaning to it.
To wrap up the album, Gaga has her third ballad which has been released for a while already, “Die With a Smile,” featuring Bruno Mars. This has been a popular song for a while, and I’m sure you’ve heard it once or twice, I personally don’t like this song at all. I think that their voices do not work together and that Bruno Mars’ voice overpowers Gaga’s. They are both amazing artists when separate, but they just don’t work well together. Gaga can produce great music with other artists, like “Rain on me,” which featured Gaga and Ariana Grande.
Overall, I think this is a very strong album with a lot of hits. Of course, there are a few things that could be improved upon, but they are easily overlooked. I really enjoyed most of the songs on this album and have even added a few to my playlist. I really think that Lady Gaga is back and better than ever.
