Unpopular Opinions: Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t as good as everyone says it is

Juliana Hamel’s reoccuring column will be focusing on points of view topics that no one wants to talk about.

For some students, school is the only reason they wake up before 10 a.m. All the early mornings after long nights require an energy boost, one in the form of a large iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts, perhaps.

Dunks cups have taken over early mornings at LHS, and the more I see my fellow students sipping on their caffeinated beverages, the more baffled I become. Why does everyone gravitate towards Dunks? Is it the cheap price? Is it the fact that Dunks is around every corner in Londonderry (seriously, there are 7 of them)? Is it just the easier option early in the morning? I find it hard to believe everyone thinks Dunkin’ Donuts has the best coffee in the world. It’s mediocre fast-food coffee; not bad, but not great either.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a coffee every now and then, but Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t my automatic first choice. There’s just nothing special about it. I’d rather make my own coffee in the comfort of my home, or, dare I say, go to Starbucks, before I’m inclined to go to Dunks.

And if a student isn’t sipping on their caffeinated beverage, they’re probably munching on a donut on the verge of becoming stale. I’m not the biggest fan of donuts (I know, I know, don’t kill me), so I may not be the best person to say this, but Dunkin’s donuts just aren’t cutting it for me. Like their coffee, their donuts aren’t terrible, but their just so… blah. If I had to pick between Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, I’d choose Krispy Kreme in a heartbeat.

Between the average coffee and sub-par donuts, I just don’t see how Dunks is worth the hype. America may run on Dunkin’, but I sure don’t.
