All boys’ bathrooms with the exception of the bathrooms in the 200’s will be closed due to “malicious vandalism”.

Racist and Anti-Semitic “imagery and undertones” were found in certain boys’ bathrooms of LHS. To mitigate further vandalism, all boys’ bathrooms will be closed except for the one in the 200’s, which will be monitored by members of the LHS Administration.

Unfortunately, this display of behavior is not a first-time occurrence. Bathrooms across the school were vandalized back in September, 2021 following the “Devious Licks” trend on TikTok.

Disruptive behavior of this manner has risen due to COVID-19 and the resulting interruption of social development.

As a result of this repeated behavior, House 2 Assistant Principal (AP) Christopher Mazzone sent out an email to Lancer Families detailing the vandalism and appealing to parents/guardians for assistance with regard to this matter.

“We are sincerely asking for your help,” AP Mazzone said. “Please talk to your students and encourage them to report what they see. We understand that this can be difficult, but a small number of individuals will not detract from who we are and what we stand for. We firmly believe in an environment which is inclusive and safe for all. We need your help to see this through.”

In the email, Mazzone provides emails of House APs if reporting in person is not possible:

House 1 – Abbey Sloper ([email protected])

House 2 -Chris Mazzone ([email protected])

House 3 Crystal Rich  ([email protected])

House 4 Katie Sullivan ([email protected])

House APs have asked teachers to only allow one student out at a time to use the bathroom and to keep accurate records of bathroom use. Administration will be present in between periods to monitor the 200’s bathrooms.

LHS Administration is coordinating with the Londonderry Police Department to identify the individuals responsible for the vandalism and to hold them “accountable”.

Not only is this behavior disrespectful, but it is illegal, and wrong,” AP Mazzone said. “This behavior will not be tolerated in our school. These individuals will be held accountable by all applicable laws and school policies. In addition, we will continue to take measures to increase supervision and safety in these areas.”

At the end of the letter sent to LHS families, LHS Administration thanked parents/guardians for their cooperation.

“Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to achieve the goal of creating an environment which is safe and welcoming for all,” said AP Mazzone.
