“Dignity for Foster Children.”
This phrase captures junior Megan Plaza’s mission in four words. To make this mission a reality, Plaza is hosting an event called “Notes of Encouragement” on April 15 after school from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. where students will write notes for foster kids and at-risk youth, creating a space of encouragement for foster children.
Plaza encourages others to contribute in any way possible.

The Suitcase Project is more than just a project to Plaza. After watching family friends face hardship in the foster care system growing up, Plaza took it upon herself to create change for her community.
“When foster children and families receive these notes, they feel uplifted, heard and seen by the communities around them,” Plaza said. “even if it’s just for a moment.”
In addition to presenting about foster care in New Hampshire, Plaza highlights difficult realities, including that the average foster child moves 15 times before adulthood. Students directly impacted from this issue will receive notes of encouragement in addition to any other support from The Suitcase Project.
“I want someone to open a note and feel like someone out there is rooting for them,” Plaza said. “A few kind words can remind someone that they matter more than they realize, and remind them that they are also a normal kid or family.”
