You would never think that landing after a spike could be the end of someone’s season, but it was.
During a practice last year, senior Dylan Dugen, who plays on the varsity boys volleyball team, jumped up to hit a ball and on the way down, he broke his foot.
“I was just going to hit a ball, and I just landed weirdly breaking my foot,” Dugen said.
This cut Dugen’s season short.
But since Dugen broke his foot so early in the season, his foot was able to heal in time for the back part of their schedule.
Dugen made his return against Farmington High School, but his injury still impacted him.
“I just felt like I couldn’t move like I used to,” he said.
This showed on the court where Dugen went from three digs per game to one dig per game.

However, that was last season and with the Lancers being the state championship favorites heading into this season, Dugen is excited to get back to playing volleyball again.
The Lancers have been hosting some open gyms and players such as Theo Paccione said Dugen is “the hardest working kid there.”
Dugan agrees with this.
“I have really been working my butt off to get back to my old self,” he said.
With the Lancers being the title favorites Dugen hoped to do more for the team then last year.
John Buatti, the boys variety volleyball coach, said he “loves Dylan’s hustle.”
“It’s something that we were missing from last year’s team,” Buatti said, “and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he grows throughout the season.”
