NH homeless veterans in need of donations
Last+year%2C+a+few+truckloads+of+items+were+donated+to+Harbor+Homes+in+NH.
Last year, a few truckloads of items were donated to Harbor Homes in NH.

The Harbor Homes Veterans Drive returns to Lancer Nation for the third year in a row. The drive is beginning earlier this year to give students and community members more time to donate items.

Mr. Sampson, freshman football coach and IT Specialist, is in charge of the donations and personally brings the collected items to the homeless veterans at NH’s four shared housing and apartment complexes.

The collection starts on Friday, September 18th at the first home football game against Exeter from 6pm to 8pm. If students or community members bring in items to donate, then they will receive a stamp, exempting them from having to pay the game fee.

Harbor Homes is in need of a variety of household items. Acceptable donations include non-perishable food items, bath and kitchen supplies, as well as laundry supplies and new bedding. Clothing will not be accepted. It is preferred that all items are brought in either bags or boxes for transportation purposes.

The Community Service Club will collect donations at the gate during home football games from 6pm to 8pm, and on Thursdays of weeks in which there are no home games from 3pm to 6pm in the Phase 6 entrance.

Items can also be brought to C period classes. At the end of the drive on October 30th, the items will be counted in each class. The C period class with the most donations will win a free breakfast. Monetary donations can also be made by check written out to LHS.

The Veterans F.I.R.S.T. Program, which sponsors Harbor Homes, aids thousands of veterans every year, dealing with drug addiction, unemployment, and PTSD. There are about 600 homeless veterans homeless in NH and thousands more who are struggling to get by. The program provides transitional housing to these veterans, and provides them with the opportunity to find jobs, receive more education, and eventually, get them back into homes.

Grab some cans, soap, new pillowcases, toilet paper, dryer sheets, and dishes, and help the men and women who served our country.
