It’s time to finally answer the age-old question, is it possible to survive without the internet? Due to an update to Windows that Sophos, the school’s anti-virus software, incorrectly pinged as a virus, large swaths of the school have been kicked off the internet as Sophos places their computers in a digital time out.  This is part of a protocol in the system that will purposefully disconnect a computer from the internet if Sophos picks up a virus to quarantine it from the rest of the network. This is in an effort to prevent any potential virus from spreading to the rest of the network. As of yet, The IT department has found no evidence of any actual virus released into the network so far. While Sophos disconnected students and staff from the internet on this scale was never anticipated, currently, it would appear to be merely the result of the school’s anti-virus software being a little too hypervigilant in its attempt to protect student data and the school’s networks. As many may have heard over the announcements many teachers have been impacted and have been forced to adapt their class schedules to this unforeseen issue. As of yet, it has made no significant disruption to classes, but if that luck continues remains unseen. Thankfully, the IT department here at LHS has been able to fix this and get everyone back online and they currently plan to over the next couple days meet with students and faculty to get everyone back online and solve any other ongoing computer is so that if your computer is affected, IT staff can get you back online as soon as possible. Even if you never touch your student laptop now is the time to bring it back into action even if just to get everything back online. It is recommended that everyone fully restart their computer and fully update them so that Of course this is still an active situation and more information will continue to be shared by the IT department and administration as they learn more about the situation and the causes that led up to it; no official statement has as of yet been made by the IT department or administration on the issue. The Lancer Spirit will continue to cover this and inform students of any updates or more information as it is released.
